About Troy Olsen

Troy Olsen, ACMHC (He/Him)

Therapist

I have taken a roundabout path to becoming a counselor. I have explored and worked in various fields, including animal husbandry, biology, cosmetology, and teaching. After feeling unfulfilled in these areas, I shifted my focus to mental health counseling, driven by my ongoing interest and passion for LGBTQIA+ and mental health issues and research. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Portland State University in Portland, Oregon, in 2018, and with a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Westminster University in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2026.

I work with individuals facing a range of challenges, including faith and life transitions, identity development, relationship and family conflicts, attachment injuries, trauma, grief and loss, and more. I especially value my work with individuals who have intersectional identities, such as queerness, neurodivergence, disability, spirituality, and other diverse aspects. Within my clinical work, I utilize and integrate elements of narrative therapy, depth psychology, existential theory, and attachment-based therapies, along with contemporary research on neurodevelopment and the effects of trauma on the body and brain. I am also trained in EMDR. Outside of my clinical work, I serve on the leadership committee of the LGBTQ+ Affirmative Psychotherapist Guild of Utah and recently joined the Jung Society of Utah.

When I’m not working, you can find me engrossed in sociology and therapy-related books and podcasts, enjoying X-Men comics, playing video games, and listening to black metal music. I have a deep love for plants and animals, and enjoy spending time with my partner and our two big dogs.
