Treatment Philosophy

At Mountain Valley Counseling, we think all styles of talk therapy have the potential to serve any open and willing person well. With that said, we view mental health from a trauma-informed lens. We believe that there are underlying issues to every presenting problem. We feel that if we can explore the root causes, we may be able to eradicate not only the presenting problem(s) someone comes to therapy with, but also explore and gain awareness into deep-seated patterns and behaviors, which often promotes more lasting change. Because of the diversity of our clinical backgrounds and education, our clinical team has various approaches to counseling work and practices from many different theoretical orientations.

Mission

At Mountain Valley Counseling we aim to provide high-quality, consistent, safe, and affirmative outpatient mental health care to the greater Utah population(s). We accept several insurance plans. We also provide teletherapy in addition to in-person therapy services. We want to eliminate as many barriers as we can to create more access to quality mental health care.

We believe all people should be able to access quality mental health care, regardless of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender identity, sexuality etc.

Values

Continued education, self-reflection, and quality supervision are all fundamental core values to our clinical treatment team and clinical supervision team. We are person-centered in our approach, as we want to meet clients where they are at. And above all, we want to facilitate a secure attachment in the therapist-client relationship. Our fundamental treatment philosophy can lend itself to long-term therapy work, if you want that.

We also have therapists that are skilled in Cognitive Behavioral methods, which can lend themselves to shorter-term therapy work as well, if that is your preference. The bottom line is that we will meet you where you are at and will support whatever your treatment goals are. Although a therapist-client relationship can sometimes be a lasting one, no one has to stay in therapy for an extensive period of time to get some great benefits.

Who we work with

Our mental health treatment team works with people across the lifespan. Some of our clinicians work with children, some work with adolescents, some with adults and others work with couples. Be sure to note in your therapy inquiry what demographic you are in and we can help facilitate in getting you connected to a therapist who is a good fit and specializes in what you are looking for.
